Scrappy game sees Shepshed Dynamo win
MIDLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE AFC WULFRUNIANS 0 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 1 SAM Moore’s second-half strike proved decisive for Shepshed Dynamo as they edged out AFC Wulfrunians in a scrappy affair.
Shepshed started well, and Pearson Mwangonyo’s driven cross was sliced behind before Niall Prenderville nodded wide from Liam Hurst’s measured ball in the opening exchanges.
Wulfrunians responded with a few forays forward of their own. Dynamo keeper Brandon Ganley had to save from Jake Webb and Michael Nelson, and there were appeals for a penalty when Joe Pheasant appeared to handle inside the box.
Shepshed, though, enjoyed the better chances and Jordan Smith, Karl Whymark, Liam Hurst and Jordan Wakeling all spurned opportunities to break the deadlock.
But after first-half injuries to Mwanyongo and Wakeling, Dynamo’s hopes of averting a third straight defeat were handed a massive boost when Charles Wilson saw red for elbowing Joe Pheasant just 10 minutes after the break.
And after Smith headed against the bar from Sean Phillips’ cross, it was left to substitute Moore to turn and direct a smart finish into the bottom corner on 75 minutes.
Shepshed nearly doubled their money just moments later when fellow substitute Chris Acott saw a low effort tipped onto the post by home keeper Mason Springthorpe.
The visitors were given an almighty scare in the dying embers of the match when Michael Nelson burst through and crashed a fierce shot against the crossbar, but they held firm to eke out just their second win of the season.
