LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR

LEAGUE DIVISION ONE ANSTEY TOWN 3 LOUGHBOROUGH FC 4 NOTHING seems to come easy this season for the The Luffs but still they maintain their unbeaten record in a game that rained second half goals.

Loughborough went behind in the first minute of this game as Anstey’s Ben Gibson sent in a high cross which seemed to catch the wind and deceived the Loughborough keeper Harry Burton to finish in the net. Behind in what can only be described as a freak goal Loughborough had all the work to do to break down a stubborn Anstey side who were determined to hang on to their narrow lead even for the next 89 minutes.

The Luffs worked their way through an uncertain period with chances coming and going but the Anstey keeper James Hughes kept his teams narrow lead intact right up until half time.

Loughborough came out for the second half determined to put the pressure on the Anstey side from the start and it paid off almost immediately as Ben Haywood latched on to a loose ball in the area and forced it home. Within minutes Luke Holyoake had put Anstey back in the lead and Loughborough were back to square one and 2-1 down.

These days Loughborough regularly look to the Dawes brothers for their goals and Saturday was no exception as Aaron Dawes headed the scores level at 2-2 and the visitors began to take control of the game. On came Joel Dawes the youngest of the brothers and immediately shot just wide of the post, the next one didn’t go wide as he put The Luffs into the lead for the first time of the afternoon at 2-3.

A period of mid-half superiority had swung the game and it was no surprise when Ramman Korpal stepped up to a free kick just outside the area and thumped it into the top corner giving keeper Hughes no chance. 2-4 up with ten minutes to go and looking good you would have through it was all over bar the shouting but Anstey hadn’t read the script. Curtis Padborne found the bottom corner and at 3-4 Loughborough were having sideways glances at the clock. Padborne had found a taste for goals and hit a cracking shot destined for the top corner but the young Loughborough keeper Harry Burton used every inch of his six foot height to make the save of the match. That was enough of a warning for the Loughborough side, they shut up shop and ran out 3-4 winners.

Saturday sees The Luffs at home in a top three clash with the new boys Wymeswold with a 3pm kick off at the Drome.
