A TRIO of runners have just completed the Berlin Marathon to raise thousands of pounds for a charity close to their heart.

Craig Sharp, Jethro Setchfield and Mark Purvey, who all run for Poplar Runners, took part in the event earlier this month to raise money for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity which provides support services and works to reduce the number of baby deaths.

They have all run a marathon before, as they always put their running to good use by raising money for fantastic causes.

Sands is a charity close to Mark’s heart having suffered the loss of his first child Kyran who sadly passed away just 60 minutes before his birth.

On their JustGiving page, they said: “All three of us are no strangers to fund-raising,

“Mark has raised vital funds for Sands before and also ran The London Marathon (2016) for

Tommy’s, another charity which helps with miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

“Jethro has also just completed The London Marathon (2018) and raised a huge amount for the British Red Cross, who help people cope with disasters, conflicts and crisis in the UK and overseas.

“Craig has also run The London Marathon (2015) and raised a huge amount for Children With Cancer UK who strive to increase the survival rates in childhood cancer.”

They said people’s support during thier training and encouragement throughout the journey was a great help to them personally.

Their efforts have so far raised around £2,600 via their JustGiving page, which can be viewed at https:// www. justgiving. com/ fundraising/ pops- on- tour- berlin2018

At the Berlin Marathon, they recorded times of 03:30:01 for Craig Sharp, 03:41:02 for Jethro Setchfield and 04:28:49 for Mark Purvey.
