Open letter to Nick Morgan

OPEN Letter to Nicky Morgan MP “Dear Mrs Morgan Your personal position regarding The UK’s membership of The European Union is a matter of public record, in the Referendum campaign you were unequivocal in advocating remaining in The EU although like so many, including David Cameron, you were passionate about seeking widespread reform across the spectrum .

You have been magnanimous and gracious alongside the large majority of parliamentarians in “accepting the will of the people” whilst maintaining your principles of campaigning for a “soft Brexit “

As a career politician you will however no doubt share the great worry that now concerns a substantial body of the public , both locally and nationally which is, for some at least, the dream of exiting The EU for some Utopian “Brave New World” is increasingly descending into a fractious and divisive nightmare where our present powerful economy is in danger of becoming cut adrift of the Continental European powerhouse and blunder its way into new and uncertain trade deals the fruits of which are not necessarily assured and may fail to replace the eminent economic platform which membership of the European top table afforded us.

The Referendum was decided upon a flimsy 52 per cent leave to 48 per cent remain split was too slender in many eyes to have had sufficient informed support given the unprecedented seriousness of the decision in hand. The consensus as to the key issue amongst voters was the matter of Immigration and whilst this remains a very serious topic surely the overriding and overarching impact of the economic consequences of either leaving or staying in The EU were and remain far and away the single most imperative issue at stake for our country?

There is growing evidence that a significant number of those who voted Leave for whatever reason are now far less sure of their ground and are sufficiently concerned as to entertain the merits for a further Referendum upon EU Membership based upon the “deal” or , conceivably, the lack of a deal negotiated by the government !

As loud as the hard Brexiteers might shout that such a move would be a betrayal of our democracy there can surely be no greater betrayal than that of a wholly botched negotiation whereby we have been comprehensively outmanoeuvred by the EU thus rendering the prospect of The UK failing into a prolonged and damaging period of economic regression the pain of which will be visited upon us for many long years ahead.

I would therefore urge you, relying first and foremost upon your own innate convictions to declare your openness to giving the British public a further and final opportunity to deliver a verdict upon the outcome of the negotiation process.
