Loughborough Echo

Well done students for raising so much for charity

-

BEING a resident of Loughborough since 1988 and a serving borough councillor for Loughborough Ashby Ward, I read with great delight the article headed ‘National award for Rag heart campaign’.

My Ward has much of the university included in it as well as many students who rent homes here on the estate.

As an alumni of Loughborough University and having previously lectured there for over 17 years, I know that many of the students do such great work. Therefore, imagine my pleasure seeing that ‘Loughborough Rag’ in raising more than a £1 million for charity over the last nine years, had taken home the ‘Campaign of the Year award for Heart to Heart.

I know that some (a small minority) give students a bad name in Loughborough, but this article and award do remind us all of what a lot of them do and bring rewards to our town.

As a charity fund-raiser myself through my own world record swimming exploits, I love to hear about success stories which help such worthwhile causes and raise awareness of what various charities do. The British Heart Foundation is such an amazing charity and I know the student’s work will go a long way to assisting them.

Well done to all of you – I am proud of you for doing such great work for this and other charities.

Keep up the fantastic efforts.

Dr. Julie Bradshaw MBE, councillor for Loughborough Ashby Ward)
