University podcast returns
A ‘SCHOOL of Poetry’ podcast is back once again with fresh guests and discussions of break-up, members of royalty, potatoes and more.
The podcast, published by Loughborough University, is dedicated to discussing and analysing the good – and the not so good – within the world of poetry.
Dr Oli Tearle, an author and lecturer of English at Loughborough, makes his return appearance as host of the educational yet entertaining show, which is now live and available from iTunes, as well as the Apple Podcast app.
In the latest episode he is joined by Dr Claire O’Callaghan, whose research focuses on Victorian and neo-Victorian literature and culture, with an emphasis on gender, sexuality, and queerness, and Dr Sarah Parker, whose specialises in nineteenth and 20th century litera- ture, with an emphasis on women’s poetry, decadence and aestheticism, gender and sexualities, and visual cultures. The trio discuss poems that fall under the theme of ‘break-up’ and examine Emily Jane Bronte’s If Grief for Grief Can Touch Thee plus the works of Iris Tree, who despite being remembered as a model, was, in fact, a poet.
A rap poem penned for Prince William’s 21st birthday is discussed in the popular ‘So Bad, It’s Good...’ segment of the show and includes some interesting observations from internet comments sections, as well as the guests.
