Loughborough Carillon ‘A’ get title defence off to perfect start with 10-0 win

-

LEICESTER HOSPITALS 0 LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON ‘A’ 10 IT WAS a perfect 10 for Carillon as they got their defence of the Division 1 title off to a great start. Seventeen-year-old George Godwin, who has been playing with the club since he was five, marked his arrival in the A Team with four stunning goals.

Also on target for Carillon were Nicola Murdoch, Zoe Howick, Christopher Reeves, Ed Howick, Harry Burroughs and new Captain Jack Evans.

While Godwin will take the plaudits for his finishing it was the all-round team display that ultimately gave Carillon their victory.

Hospitals simply could not cope with the pace and movement of the Carillon midfield. Chris Reeves was at his best, his ranging passes opening up Hospitals on more than one occasion. Debutant Lucy Clarke fitted well into the team and did excellent work on the right hand side of the pitch and played an influential part in a couple of goals.

Howick and Burroughs linked up well and their harrying and persistence made it very difficult for Hospitals to get any control or time in the centre of the pitch. Clare Hawksworth and Julia Rann also put in the hard yards between 23 and 23 and both came close to scoring.

On the rare occasions that Hospitals did come forward they were thwarted by the veteran pairing of Jez Clarke and Jen Dewick who masterfully controlled the back line. Carillon goalkeeper, Adrian Dewick, was a mere spectator for most of the match, only having to make a couple of regulation saves in the 70 minutes.

There was a late scare for Carillon as Hawksworth took a nasty blow to the arm. Fortunately she was OK and Carillon scored from the resulting penalty corner.

There will be stiffer tests for Carillon in the coming weeks but as a starter skipper Jack Evans couldn’t have wished for a better start. He said: “We were brilliant, the whole team worked really hard for each other, our passing was great and some of the goals we scored came from really good moves involving five or six players.”

RUTLAND HORSESHOES 8 LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON FALCONS 0 AFTER their glorious victory last weekend Falcons succumbed to title contenders Rutland. The score line slightly flatters Rutland who were often pegged back by Falcons for long periods of the game. However, Rutland are a very good side, and their attacking options are numerous and were ultimately too strong.

LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON HAWKS 1 LEICESTER WOLVES 1 HAWKS remain undefeated as they came away with a hard fought draw against a strong Wolves side. It was a fair result and both teams will be content with a point.

Loughborough Carillon have five mixed teams playing league hockey on a Saturday across the County.
