Shepshed clinch their promotion to Div Two

-

SHEPSHED Cricket Club celebrated at the weekend as they secured promotion to Division Two of The Everards Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League, while the 4th XI were crowned Champions of Division 10 West.

Shepshed 1st XI’s game against Lutterworth was abandoned because of rain but the side had done enough to earn the seven points they needed to finish the season in second place behind Ashby Hastings and clinch promotion ahead of Hinckley Town 2nd XI.

Shepshed 2nd XI played their final home game of the season against Loughborough Greenfields 1sts and recorded a fine win against the champions. Batting first Shepshed scored 177 for 7 with Mark Bonam scoring a superb 66, Andy Miller hit 32 and Tom Parker hit a quick fire 13.

In reply Shepshed bowled really well with Pete Pitts yet again among the wickets taking 3-12 - Greenfields never got to grips with the Shepshed bowling and were eventually bowled out for just 118 a great win for Shepshed a win that enabled the 2nds to finish 8th in Division 4 West.

Shepshed 3rd XI travelled the short distance to Grace Dieu Park 2nds and had a day to forget as Grace Dieu scored 224 but when it was time for Shepshed to bat it went horribly wrong with Shepshed being bowled out for just 80. A disappointing end to the league campaign for Shepshed who have had a frustrating season but the main priority was to avoid relegation and that was achieved as Shepshed finished in 10th place.

Shepshed 4th XI were crowned Champions finishing top of Division 10 West with 256 points losing only two games all season and winning 8 from their 11 matches with a mix of youngsters and adults.
