FOOTBALL LEAGUE LOUGHBOROUGH UNI FC 3

WESTFIELDS 1 THE SCHOLARS backed up their 5-0 FA Vase away win against Arnold Town with a strong performance at home to league leaders Westfields.

Loughborough Uni started the fixture with much of possession in the Westfields half, but they failed to really test the keeper as fields defence stood strong.

Half chances came through Dasaolu and Eneremadu in the first 20 minutes which also saw Westfields restricted to an effort just outside of the area which Jake Hilton dealt with well diving to his left.

With the Scholars dominance in possession they were rewarded with the lead on 35 minutes after Connor Smith broke free passsing the ball out to the edge of the area to Chris Eneremadu who beat his man and fired into the net from 18 yards.

Five minutes later Captain Joel Bonner nearly had a birthday goal as he found himself free at the back post from a Jacob Croud Cross but his header was put narrowly wide.

Only nine minutes had passed of the second half when Eneremadu was involved in another key incident of the game when Westfields defender Sam Gywnne seemed to put his head into Eneremadu off the ball which led to Gwynne seeing a red card.

Despite going down to 10 men Westfields looked to get on top of the game and a succession of corners saw a header just fly over Hilton’s bar.

This acted as a wake up call for the Scholars who needed to look for a second goal. On 66 minutes that second goal nearly came as a great passage of play saw Boachie set up Jordan Slack but his shot was well saved by the keeper.

Three minutes later the second goal did arrive as Boachie added another goal to his seasons tally rising high above the crowd in the six yard box to powerfully head home.

In a strong five minutes for the scholars they nearly added a quick third when Boachie was brought down in the area by the oncoming keeper. The resulting penalty by Boachie was well saved by the keeper making up for giving the penalty away.

With the clock winding down a msistake by Jordan Connor saw Westfields pinch the ball back in the Scholars half and fire the ball past Hilton making it 2-1 with six minutes to play.

In what could have been a nervy last five minutes, the scholars rallied and quickly got a third to prevent any Westfields comeback, Joe Boachie getting his second of the afternoon as he cut inside from the left and placed the ball into the far corner on the tight angle on 85 minutes.
