Winter seems to be coming..

-

PRESIDENT, Valerie Greenhill welcomed everyone to the September meeting of the Thorpe Acre WI held at the Thorpe Acre Church Hall on Tuesday the 11th at 7.30pm. Several birthday cards were handed out.

There wasn’t a get together over coffee last month but normal nattering will be resumed at the end of September when we shall descend upon Goodliffe’s for our much missed coffee morning. Party Pieces will be our next port of call in October.

We won our darts match against Oaks in Charnwood by five games to two. At the end of this part of the competition the team have amassed twenty one points so now eagerly await to see if we’ve made it through to the semi-finals. With the first match of the knockout Skittles Competition against Walton-le-Wolds arranged, we now know that winter’s definitely on its way.

Another sign of this is that Carole has collected all the deposits for our Christmas Lunch at Beaumanor Hall. Yet another portent is that the tickets for our ‘Go Ukulele Crazy’ Extravaganza on December 14th at the Thorpe Acre Church are now available.

Looking even further ahead, January’s visit to the see the pantomime at Birmingham Hippodrome has been confirmed. Several people were interested in the ‘King and I’ and the Alan Bennett play ‘Alleluia’, two of the ‘live streamed’ events being screened at the cinema in November. Carole will book for these.

There is another meeting of the Wild, Woolly, Women’s Workshop scheduled for the end of September.

Correspondence from WI House and National was placed at the front of the table for perusal. Valerie drew members’ attention to the ‘Round the County’ item in this month’s County News.

The second part of the meeting was handed over to Carolyn Boulter who showed us how to make a patchwork Christmas tree. It was amazing to see these decorations take shape from a few pieces of material, a cut down wooden skewer and two stars. Thanks to Carolyn, everyone went home very pleased with their new acquisition and the ability to make another if they so wished. Sue Y. gave the vote of thanks.

As well as the usual raffle prize, Sue W. donated this month’s flower arrangement. These were won by Julie H. and Meg, respectfully. Refreshments were provided by Meg and Kayleen. Kayleen won the competition, with Sue W. coming 2nd and Jo H., 3rd.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, 9th October, at 7.30pm at the Thorpe Acre Church Hall.

Unfortunately our speaker for this month has had to cancel so Sue Y has stepped into the breach and will be running a ‘Blue Quiz’. Exactly what this entails we do not know.

However, if you’d like to find out pop along, share a cuppa, a warm welcome and perhaps a few quizzical grimaces, please do.
