Photo Society competition
SILEBY Photographic Society hosted its counterparts, Nottingham Outlaws Photographic Society, at its meeting held on Monday, 17th September when the annual ‘battle’ between the two clubs took place.
Visiting judge, Gary Langley, DPAGB, took on the task of comparing and awarding marks to a maximum of 20 points for each print, colour and monochrome, and digital image submitted by both Societies in an attempt to decide on the winning team.
Seating was at a premium for this popular event and a full house did justice to the evening as it unfolded.
A wide range of subjects was exhibited which included landscapes and seascapes, portraits, transport, natural history, architecture, shapes and patterns and more, and all were great pictures/images in their own right and warranted inclusion in the competition.
Both teams proved to be a force to be reckoned with, each showcasing their best photographic work, and it was a joy to view the prints and projected digital images from a spectator’s point of view. Gary, therefore, really had to work hard for his money when considering each one, which he did with enthusiasm and knowledge, providing excellent and constructive comments before awarding individual marks for each.
After careful adding-up, and even a re-count, of the combined scores at the end of the evening, Sileby were eventually declared the overall winners by the very small margin of four points, with Nottingham and Sileby achieving 514 and 518 points respectively.
Perhaps it was the delicious refreshments on offer at half-time which went some way to soften the blow for Nottingham but it was unanimously agreed that it had been a great evening of stunning photography with the competition conducted in a great atmosphere between the two societies.
Congratulations to Sileby therefore, but perhaps the tables will be turned at next year’s event when Nottingham will host on home turf.
Thanks were given to Gary for a job well done and for contributing to the success of the evening as a whole.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, October 1,, when one of Sileby’s own members, Malcolm Coulton, will present digital images under the title ‘ Venice Revisited’.
As usual, visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the Society’s meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm and are held at Sileby Community Centre.
