FEROCIOUS DOG

Derby

-

FEROCIOUS Dog are giving back with their music, offering a charity food drop service for the homeless at their upcoming gig at Derby’s The Hairy Dog.

The local band have announced plans to give back as part of their upcoming shows after the son of frontman Ken Bonsall, Lee Bonsall, committed suicide after suffering with PTSD following a deployment in Afghanistan.

Ken and his wife Karen set up The Lee Bonsall Memorial Fund in his memory, organising soup kitchens to help the homeless. That’s when the couple discovered that there were many were ex-servicemen living on the streets, which inspired the band’s dedication to setting up food drops and asking fans to donate not only food, but other items such as clothes, to the cause at their gigs.

The donations are then given to homeless charities in Derby, Nottingham and Mansfield.

“After going to watch I, Daniel Blake, which is a realistic depiction of life on benefits, it really pushed me on,” Ken said. “I felt that we are missing a trick here, and we decided to start in Glasgow, which is a deprived city, really struggling.

“We had a brilliant response. I phoned up homeless charities and food banks and they came to take the food away.”

The band have been putting their dedication to helping others into practice for a while now, even collecting many donations during their 2015 gig at Nottingham’s Rock City which were then donated to Framework, a local charity which aims to help the homeless and others in vulnerable situations.

Ferocious Dog will be performing at The Hairy Dog on October 5 and 6. Tickets cost £18.15 from gigantic.com. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations to help the homeless.
