...and Best in the East Midlands

-

QUORN received a Silver Gilt Award at the East Midlands in Bloom award ceremony at Newark last week.

The Judges’ Award was given to the management of Church View Garden and Quorn and Woodhouse Station on the Great Central Railway was given a Silver Award.

Joan and Roger Walton’s garden in the best front garden category also got a Silver Award.

After the awards, Jane Hollingworth of Quorn in Bloom told the Echo: “We as a village were disappointed not to have retained the gold we got last year especially having made so many improvements to our entry and having new additions to our tour.

“The bulbs planted last autumn at Church View Garden looked lovely this spring time, giving months of colour but unfortunately by July when judging took place the gardens looked very parched and the perennial wild flowers used as underplanting had all gone over in the extreme heat, so as the main strength of our entry is permanent, sustainable and wildlife friendly planting this year was tough.

“We are very grateful to the support from villagers who have come to our aid offering help, support and encouragement and all who work hard as part of our entry, we could not achieve what we do without you.

“Our village looks lovely due to the hard work of so many and the pride taken by so many in the upkeep of their front gardens and beautiful basket. Thank you.”
