Complex dance numbers as 42nd Street arrives

-

GREASEPAINT Productions are following up the massive success of Fame by tapping and dancing their way back to Loughborough Town Hall next week with their production of musical theatre classic 42nd Street.

The show, currently playing to sold out audiences at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London’s West End, tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a girl from Allentown, Pennsylvania who steps off the bus in New York City seeking the chance to dance in famed director Julian Marsh’s newest produc- tion ‘Pretty Lady’. Things don’t start well when leading lady Dorothy Brock, threatened by the newcomer, takes a dislike to Peggy, a situation that doesn’t improve when Peggy accidentally falls into Dorothy and causes her ankle to break just before opening night!

Is Peggy’s career over before it begins? Will the show flop without a leading lady? The only way to find out is to come and see this musical theatre fairytale.

Greasepaint have assembled a sensational cast for this show led by Lucy Woodcock-Tarry as Peggy. She is supported by Jonny Painting as Julian Marsh, Katherine Pledger as Dorothy Brock, and Joe Harrison as Billy Lawlor. Gemma Landers, Emily Canham and Emily Healey are Peggy’s friends Anytime Annie, Phylis and Lorraine, while Chris Wilson and Toni Brattle play writers Maggie and Bert. Keith Reynolds plays producer Abner Dillion, Cameron Simm is Pat Denning, and Scott Tompkins plays Andy Lee, the shows dance captain.

Directing the piece is Emma Healey, James Stevens is the musical director of a sparkling score which includes classics such as Lullaby Of Broadway, We’re in the Money, 42nd Street and About a Quarter to Nine. Jeanette Patrick-Cooper is the choreographer, and is setting some of the most complex and quickest tap numbers ever seen on a Loughborough Stage.

42nd Street is at Loughborough Town Hall from October 23-27.
