Brewin makes competitive debut at Darley Moor

-

SHEPSHED’S Dominic Brewin made his competitive motorbike racing debut at Ashbourne when he took part in the Darley Moor ‘Stars at Darley 2018’ race weekend.

Brewin (32) started road racing after leaving the Army and got his road racing license in July and decided to make his debut before the 2018 race season finished to get some race experience under his belt before the start of the 2019 race programme.

He said: “We arrived late Friday evening, set up in the wind and rain and found that Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness with his Norton bike set up next to us as our paddock neighbours, as well as British superbike teams G&S Racing and Hawk Racing.

“Saturday was a cold and wet start, I got out on track for the open practice on the 1.5 mile circuit, on my 2001 Yamaha 600cc R6 with full wets on and slowly started to bring my lap times down getting used to the track.”

Brewin qualification time for Sunday’s race put him on the back of the grid but moved up the field from the start and after a stop and start race which saw the field red flagged twice because of accidents, he finished 14th out of 21 riders and sixth out of 12 in his class.

“It was a brilliant first weekend racing and I’m looking forward to 2019. I would like to thank my sponsors Shire mini skip hire and Neil Kirby Photography for all their help and support and Kev’s van rentals in Loughborough for providing the vans we have used to get to Cadwell Park and Donington Park throughout the year to practice and get ready for racing.”
