-

THE mystery photos of a helicopter that used to land in the garden of a big house in Castledine Street, Loughborough in the 1970s looks to have been solved.

Looking Back reader Cecilia Sharman took the photos from her bedroom window at 82 Park Road in the 1970s.

And now other readers have been in touch.

Pamela Faulkener who lives in Castledine Street believes the helicopter used to land on the plot of land where her bungalow now is.

Kathy Dick also e-mailed saying: “We came to live in Park Road. in the summer of 1973, and were fascinated to see a helicopter arriving at the big house at the corner of Stanley Street. and Castledine Street, most Sunday mornings.

“Neighbours told us that it was the daughter of the house, and her husband, arriving for Sunday lunch.”

Mary Wortley also contacted us to say: “We lived in Castledine Street, in the 70s, three doors away from The Nook, home to Dr. and Mrs. Rainey.

“They had twin daughters one of whom, April, married Tommy Sopwith’s son.

“They visited their parents sev- eral times, landing the helicopter with an almighty whirring and draught on their large square lawn.

“It was very exciting and we used to hang out of the bedroom window to watch, but there was a certain amount of huffing and puffing from some of the street’s residents who disapproved and thought property could be damaged.”
