Costa set to open town drive-thru

Part of Aldi development

- ALAN THOMPSON

THE new Costa on the Allendale Road Aldi development, is thought to be its first drive-thru coffee shop in Leicestershire.

The retailer is expanding in Loughborough with a new building which forms part of a retail complex.

The plot is on the development alongside the new Aldi, in Allendale Road.

But the coffee company - a wholly-owned subsidiary of brewing giant Whitbread - is remaining tight lipped about the details.

The unit is built but a spokesman declined to share further information at this moment in time.

However, details of the drive-thru are contained in planning applications which came before Charnwood Borough Council earlier this year.

They are part of a retail complex which will include the new store - Loughborough’s second - and a variety of retail units and a vet’s.

Council planning documents submitted by the applicant, Costa Ltd, reveal permission being sought for three signs, roof lettering, a menu sign, barrier sign and two freestanding poster signs.

The application makes clear that they relate to Costa and the wider development.

Other plans for the site include shops, financial and professional services, a restaurant, snack bar, cafe, and hot food takeaways.

The discount chain is creating 16 jobs at the store .

The shop has already recruited for some of its positions, but still has vacancies for an assistant store manager, three deputy store managers, eight store assistants and an apprentice.
