Family is put through horror ordeal by bogus police officers
Cash and jewellery stolen in burglary at Loughborough home
TWO men posing as police officers have stolen thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and cash from a Loughborough home.
Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Bates Close, just off Maxwell Drive, on Tuesday, November 20, or have seen any of the pictured jewellery to make contact.
The burglary happened at a house in the area shortly before 7pm. The occupants of the house were in at the time of the burglary and were threatened with a screwdriver by the two men.
They were spotted in the rear garden of the address and told one of the occupants they were police officers. The men then approached the front door and made threats to the family if they did not let them in.
No one was injured in the incident but around £2000 in cash and a large quantity of Asian jewellery, including those in the pictures, was stolen.
Keys to a BMW that was not at the address were also taken.
The man holding the screwdriver has been described as white, around 5ft 8ins, large build, with an Eastern European accent. He was wearing a grey hat, grey jumper and grey gloves with a dark mask covering his face.
The two men spoke to each other in a different language and both left the address on foot.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Gemma Dempsey, said: “This ordeal was incredibly frightening for the family. They were threatened in their own home and had to stand by while two men stole from them.
“What is also worrying for us is these two men initially pretended to be police officers so we urgently want to catch them before they use this as a tactic to target other people.
“If you were around the Bates Close area of Loughborough at the time of the burglary and saw anything or have seen the jewellery in the photo for sale please make contact. Information you have could help with our enquiries.”
