VOLUNTEERS at Shepshed Volunteer centre completed nearly 5,000 hours of work in 2018 taking part in a number of community projects.

Angie Whitmore told the Echo that she was “extremely proud” of all the work the volunteers have carried out, and that she “couldn’t do it without them.”

The volunteer centre based in Charnwood Road, has a range of projects its volunteers take part in and its estimated that thanks to volunteers the centre has saved £36,142.50 - which is if the 4,819 volunteered hours were paid by £7.50 an hour that is how much it would have cost.

Centre manager Angie Whitmore hailed the ‘extraordinary’ work the volunteers do and said that the team is now looking for gardeners for the new spring season for its gardening project.

“With the new year, we are looking for gardeners to help out as a volunteer. This would be working in our clients’ gardens, looking after what they already have including mowing, weeding and general cutting back. Most volunteers work 1½ hrs in the morning, and can be as little as once every two weeks or three times a week if you have the time.

“We have a long waiting list of gardens waiting to be managed for clients who are not able to get out there themselves, and have no-one else to do the garden for them.

“If you are able to help, please contact the volunteer centre on 01509 508040 or email angie on a n g i e . w h i t m o re @ j o h n - storercharnwood.org.uk it would be great to have you on our team!”
