Town 2nd XI unable to recover from early setback
OLD HALESONIANS 1ST XI 5 LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN 2ND XI 2
AFTER A convincing win over Khalsa last week, Town travelled to Birmingham to face a well organised Old Halesonians team.
With the warm up over Town decided to start the game very badly, errors from the normally dependable Ottewell and Henderson giving the ball away cheaply, allowing the strikers into the D and dispatching the ball into the net past the helpless Town keeper Hie.
With Town 2-0 down with only minutes on the clock Town had to quickly regroup and find their feet.
Thankfully for Town as the half went on they began to get into the game. From Town’s first short corner forward Hatley dispatched the ball low into the net to make it 2-1 and Town were back in the game.
The game continued to be very open with lots of space to run into. Both teams pressed forward at pace creating some good chances which failed to result in another goal. The first half ended with Town 2-1 down.
With Town’s captain Lamb’s stern half time team talk over, the second half started well for Town. A number of good chances were created forcing Halesonians keeper to make a sting of good saves, Sibson, Capel, Hatley all missed the target. Harrison in particular found his shot well save by the keepers helmet!
Newly promoted into the 2nd team, highly rated striker Parry, tried his best to bring Town level but failed to deliver when it counted.
Sadly for Town they found themselves 3-1 down after a short corner found its way straight through the keepers legs. Town never gave up, defenders Stow and Conner Sign pushed forward beating a number of Halesonians players at times setting up a number of good Town attacks.
It was Town’s senior player Phil Sign who got Town back into the game, after taking a free hit quickly in his on half, charging forward, flying by very static Halesonians players who were arguing the decision, coolly shot and scored from the top of the D.
Town had to push forward with time running out if they wanted to take anything away from the game, but unfortunately it was Halesonians who found the net twice more before the game ended. With the game over Town now have a week off to prepare for a run of tough games which could decide if they gain the promotion they are striving to achieve.
