Loughborough Town 3rd XI pay the price for poor second half display

-

BERKSWELL & BALSALL COMMON MEN’S 1ST XI 4 LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN MEN’S 3RD XI 2 TOWN started strongly dominating the early possession and enjoyed a prolonged spell in the opponent’s half. Tommy Ross playing in a new role of just behind the two strikers worked efficiently in linking the midfield and forwards. After a flurry of short corners, Town broke the deadlock through George Gutteridge after he latched onto a defensive error before reversing the ball past the keeper just above the backboard.

However, as the half progressed Berkswell began to grow into the game and as a result equalised through a tap in at the back post.

Town continued to press forward well and were deservedly back in front through good play from Jono Griffiths who rolled out before firing a dangerous ball into the D for Ross to pounce on to for a good deflection and a well worked team goal meant Town had the lead at the half at 2-1.

After a motivational and positive team talk from Rory Cook and Skipper Peter Hayes, Town unfortunately forgot everything they said and began the second half sluggishly and the “Bees” equalised through a cross ball to an open man at the back post.

Joe Oram made some great saves in goal but unfortunately was left stranded on that one and there was nothing he could do. As Town tried to press on for a winner it left more gaps defensively meaning a short corner goal for the opponents gave them the lead.

Town did create some good chances but however were not clinical in front of goal and the opponents added another to leave the final score at 4-2. A half to forget for the Town lads as they look forward to a league double header next weekend.
