Lidl reveals opening date of supermarket
Application was first submitted back in 2016
LIDL has announced that its new supermarket, in Station Avenue in Loughborough, will open its doors for the first time on Thursday, February 28.
The company says that the new supermarket, just off Derby Road, forms part of its ongoing expansion and regeneration plans in the UK and has created up to 40 new jobs for the local community.
The store has a 1,331m² sales area and features facilities such as an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing, customer toi- lets, baby changing and parking for both cars and bicycles.
Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Andrew Hodgkinson, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Loughborough.
“It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multiaward winning products to the local community.”
The original planning application for the store in 2016, received objections from local residents and businesses.
Loughborough’s Business Improvement District (BID) which represents over 600 businesses in the area, objected to the proposal say- ing although the proposal is outside of the BID area, planning policy both nationally and locally seeks to con- centrate new developments in town centres to ensure their continued “vitality and viability.”
