Defending champs suffer third round exit

THE THIRD round games of the Kater 4 Knockout Cup and second round games of the Shield Competition were played last week in the Loughborough & District Pubs and Clubs Darts League.

There were three all division one ties in the Kater 4 Knockout Cup with the Royal Oak DP repeating last week’s win over their pub colleagues and last season’s cup winners the Royal Oak Shooters. Spot On MP beat Champs AW and the Bull and Bush Lions came through a last leg decider against the Spot On Waifs and Strays.

They are joined by three other division one sides as leaders Bottom Railway BA, Barrow Cons Wagg’s Gang and the Three Crowns Barrow all won through. The quarterfinal line up also includes division two leaders Royal Oak Bluemoon Foxes and the Anchor, Hathern from Generous Briton Division Four.

In the second round of the Shield Competition, Black Swan BWA, Spot On Guy ‘n’ Gals and the Windmill Wild Hearts all beat higher league opposition and Plough B beat the Plough Ernie’s in a ‘local’ derby. There were also wins for Fat Sam’s 26er’s, Bull and Bull Laughing Boys, Tap and Clapper Rojo’s and the Bell Foundry Blue Army.

The draw for the quarterfinals of the cup competitions will take place on Thursday, February 21, at the Three Nuns, for games to be played on Thursday, March 7. For teams that are no-longer involved with the cup competitions, March 7 is an ideal opportunity to re-arrange any cancelled league fixtures that need to be played.

In a re-arranged game in S H Cox Division Three the Beacon beat Black Swan JS 5-4 to move above them into fourth place in the division.
