Dinosaurs’ title bid gathers pace with decisive victories

-

A PREVIOUSLY close title race in the Loughborough and District Table Tennis League has swung the way of Draycott Dinosaurs after collecting maximum points in their last two outings.

The first was a potentially decisive 6-0 thrashing of club mates Draycott Donkeys who had also been in contention for the top spot.

It was a good night for the pairing of Malcolm Truman and Masher Porlock who dropped just a couple of games between them in disposing of George Gerakios and Taylor Pearson.

Then Truman and Stephen Gillott consolidated a now strong position at the top of Division One by adding to the woes of Charnwood Aggressors by the same 6-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile Hugglescote Hares appear to have lost their chance despite the best efforts of Maurice Newman.

His double was enough to force a 3-3 draw at Unicorn Avocets before being the only player to show at Draycott Donkeys in a 4-2 defeat.

The destination of the Division Two title could become a lot clearer this week as leaders Melbourne Swifts A come face to face with nearest rivals Draycott Diamonds.

Swifts picked up a gifted six points when Students C forfeited before being held to a 3-3 home at home to Unicorn Bitterns despite a double from Nathan Dumelow.

Meanwhile Diamonds maintained their challenge as the Green combination of Anna and Joanne saw off Hugglescote Hares 5-1.

Swifts go into the crunch tie with a seven-point lead, but Diamonds have two matches in hand and could therefore overhaul them.

Goons A continue to dominate Division Three having dropped only four points in 13 matches with Charnwood Blockers comfortably in second spot. And it’s a similar story in Division Four as Draycott Dragons have taken 50 out of 54 points.

Melbourne Swifts B have matched their points total but from two more matches.
