Photographic digital contest

-

THE annual digital image knockout competition took place at the meeting of Sileby

Photographic Society held on Monday, February 4.

Nine members took part in the challenge and they brought along with them their entries for scrutiny under the critical eye of this year’s guest judge, David Gibbins, ARPS, APAGB, EFIAP/b, BPE5*.

Entrants provided three images of their choice for each round and were either eliminated or progressed to the next round according to the marks awarded to a maximum of 20 points per image.

David provided in-depth and constructive comments supporting his decisions and, with such a wide variety of subjects selected for display and presented in either monochrome or colour, judging was by no means easy.

After much deliberation, the process of elimination resulted in the semi-finals being contested between Bob Andrews and Richard Storier, and Kevin Blood and Mike Belson. .

Richard and Kevin achieved most points and subsequently contested the final round. Whilst both of them produced stunning images, it was Kevin who had the edge, with the judge awarding him a total of 56 points for his three entries. Whilst Richard achieved a creditable 51 points for his final round, this was insufficient to knock Kevin off his perch, and it was Kevin, therefore, who was declared this year’s winner of the competition.

Colin Machin, President, thanked David for a job well done, a competition which in itself had provided quite a challenge for the judge in view of the diverse selection of images presented over all rounds.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 18, when visiting lecturer, Bill Allsopp, LRPS, LBPPA, will present digital images under the title ‘Birds, Blokes, Blooms and Britain’.

As usual, visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm and are held at the Sileby Community Centre.
