NORMANTON ON SOAR MEN’S ASSOCIATION - On the evening of Wednesday, July 24, we will be holding our Annual Treasure Hunt/BBQ. This year we return to Normanton for the “Hunt” around the village, followed by the BBQ at the Village Hall.

This is an open event to which friends and families are warmly invited.

In order to help a little with planning the BBQ it would be helpful if anyone, thinking they might like to participate, contacted either Chas Miller, tel: 01509 844287, or Simon Barrington, tel: 01509 844011. We look forward to seeing you there.

NORMANTON ON SOAR PICNIC IN THE PARK - A village get-together! We will be hosting our now annual event at the Normanton on Soar Village Hall playing field on Saturday, August 10, from 3:30pm. £5 per person, £3 for OAPs and free for children.

We are having two bands, a singer and guitarist performing.

Please bring your own gazebo and a picnic, there is no organised barbecue this year, but bring your own as long as it’s off the grass. For further information please ring Sue Ponting (01509 844088).

CHURCH SURVEY - Many thanks to all who completed the church survey. As many as 10 per cent of the households in the village responded, which makes the survey statistically sound. We are currently analysing the results and will let you know more in the next edition. One request which was made many times was to have the church open each day of the week, rather than just weekends.

People value being able to visit for contemplation and prayer. Another request was to provide music in the background when the church is open, so we are working on that.

We do, however, need more volunteers to open and close the church as we rely on very few people to do this.

You could volunteer to be on the rota for weekends or you could volunteer to open and close the church on a set day of the week – for example every Friday.

We can be very flexible, but if you are interested, please have a word with Claire Cole or email her on cole29478@ gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing from you.
