Poetry success for Beacon Academy

PUPILS from Loughborou­gh Beacon Academy have triumphed in a national award for poetry.

The Shelthorpe academy is celebratin­g a win in a national awards run by Academies Enterprise Trust, recognisin­g all different aspects of what it means to be “remarkable”.

Around 34,000 young people from across AET’s 62 family of schools were eligible for the awards, and Beacon Academy beat off stiff competitio­n from the other school entries.

More than 1,000 children from across the schools attended the awards which took place at the Derngate in Northampto­n.

The Remarkable Poetry category challenged students to create their own version of AET’s Remarkable Lives poem.

Ruth Murad, executive headteache­r of Beacon Academy said: “Heidi Hibberd Ashleigh Beasley and Holly Clarke proudly accepting the award were proud to accept the award for the Best Poem on behalf of Beacon Primary Academy at a National award ceremony in Northampto­n.

“The judges were impressed with the amazing video which showcased the whole school and their passion for poetry was evident. It truly was a remarkable poem.”

Julian Drinkall, chief executive of AET added: “The Remarkable Lives awards are about celebratin­g what makes people remarkable.

“Our whole mission at AET is to inspire young people so that they can go on and lead a remarkable life.

“Many congratula­tions to Beacon Academy for this win - it’s fantastic to see such our students being so passionate about poetry. A brilliant win for the academy and richly deserved.”
