The fun began when trying to find show entrance...

-

I RETURNED from the Rempstone Steam and County Fair in a gleeful mood, gazing with wonderment at a magnificent array of fully restored and working machinery from the goliaths of steam to the pop-pop of an autocycle.

Each and every exhibit had a story to tell about searching for the elusive part which completes every restoration, pride of ownership was on display everywhere. Added to the joy was weather befitting an English summer - adding to the magic. The tangled mess of Brexit was left far away.

However, there was one fly in the ointment. The day was spoilt by the lack of signage. There were no visible indicators as to what was where.

Cars flooded into parking areas in an orderly manner, passengers and drivers got out - now the fun began.

Where exactly was an entrance to the show itself? Fortunately, being British, the continual search turned to jollity among the searchers. There was a metal fence which if followed led to the show entrance, but there were no arrows attached to the fence indicating in which direction the entrance lay. Hav

ing wandered around for 40 minutes, and reached a point of wanting to give up the search, suddenly there the entrance was - not a miracle, but an actuality.

This is not the end of the searching saga. Time was spent searching for my car on leaving the fair. There were two car parks and my initial search to begin my journey home was in

the wrong car park. As a regular attendee of the Rempstone event over decades, I have glimmering memory of there being finger-type signposts pointing to particular activities and car parking.

There must be difficulties in organising shows on a grand scale and hitches and faults are personally understood.

Maybe, just maybe, the logistics on such a scale might be eased by the voluntary assistance of an ergonomics student at university, such a volunteer may jump at the opportunity of putting theory into practice.
