Personal travel plan bid to reduce traffic congestion
PERSONAL travel plans are being launched by the county and city council to help reduce traffic congestion and boost sustainable travel in and out of Leicester.
Around 10,500 residents living in Birstall and Mowmacre Hill will start to receive postcards telling them about the personal travel plans which will then be followed up with doorstep visits over the next few weeks.
Blake Pain, county council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Our work around personal travel plans form another vital part of the council’s commitment to tackling climate change. We hope we can work together with residents to make it easier for them to make sustainable and healthier travel choices
“With our cycle and walking routes, cycle training courses, park and ride sites, and travel planners we want to highlight and support the different methods of sustainable transport and offers available which will help us to tackle congestion, encourage active travel and help people save money.”
The county and city councils have joined forces, through their Sustainable Transport Access Fund, to encourage residents to learn more about sustainable travel, help tackle congestion as well as adopting lifestyle changes to be more active.
As part of the scheme, people will be asked about their travel patterns and given information and advice about alternative options, such as walking, cycling and public transport as well as tips on smart driving and car sharing.
A range of offers will be available as part of discussions with residents, including discounts on bus travel and bike purchases and servicing, as well as the opportunity to attend cycle training courses.
