It’s been a busy time for members of Thorpe Acre Scout group!

-

THORPE Acre Scout Group had a very busy weekend lately.

Seventeen Cubs and Beavers enjoyed camping in the grounds of the Thorpe Acre Road Headquarters. After a walk around the village they enjoyed some free time on Jubilee Park before returning to headquarters to toast marshmallows and watch a movie before bed time.

As they left the next morning five Scouts and four adults were preparing for a cycle camp at Hollygate Scout Campsite, Cotgrave.

The 27 mile route took them through Dishley, Hathern and Kegworth enroute to Sawley Marina. Suitably refreshed they proceeded along the towpath through Trent Lock and Attenborough Nature Reserve into Nottingham, past Nottingham Forest Football ground and onward to Cotgrave where they were joined by four other Scouts.

Taking advantage of the clement weather they camped in Hammocks without tarp covers in order to enjoy mid-summer’s night to the full.

The return journey on Sunday was by a slightly longer route to take in Notts County Football ground.

Leader Graham Knight was sponsored for the cycle ride to raise funds for a Mission Direct project in Kenya which he will be working on in August.

He will be helping to build a nurse’s house next to a remote maternity hospital near Narok so that the hospital can be open 24 hours a day, not just in daylight hours as it is at present. Graham was extremely grateful to the Scouts who accompanied him on the cycle ride.

Anyone wishing to sponsor can do so on the Thorpe Acre Scouts page at justgiving. com or contact Graham on 07482 557361 or e-mail knight578@btinternet.com
