Ian and Sally Longdon clinch Snow Trophy win
IN A busy week of golf, Rothley Park played host to a special Foursomes Medal competition on Sunday while earlier in the week, the Ladies Handicap team gave themselves a chance of promotion to Division Two with a narrow victory over Cosby. Results: Sunday, July 21: Snow Trophy Rothley Park offered far better conditions than Royal Portrush on Sunday and Ian and Sally Longdon took full advantage, winning the Snow Trophy with a net score of 68.
First introduced in 1966 this is a Foursomes Medal competition that is exclusively for pairs who are married couples from the club with 23 teams this year.
Despite the exciting finish to the Open Championship in Ireland, most stayed on for the prize presentation. Runners-up were Jane and Andrew Hebblethwaite (net 71.5), third were Ginny and John Mulligan (net 72.5) Scratch prize was won by Amanda and Jon O’Kelly with a gross 86. Rothley Park Ladies handicap team played Cosby at home on Thursday (July 18). Cosby fielded an excellent team and all of the games were hard fought with some excellent golf played ending in a 2-1 win for Rothley. This was Rothley’s last game of the series and leaves them top of the league with eight points. It’s going to be a nail biting climax because Luffenham Heath are the only other club who can match or beat Rothley’s score so the club is awaiting the result of Luffenham’s last away match against Cosby to find out if they are promoted into the Division Two. Thursday, July 18: Men’s First Team v Kibworth, won 7.5 to 0.5
The next match is away at Longcliffe on August 8. Tuesday, July 16: Padmore Cup and Ball comp Dawn Patchett won the Padmore Cup with a great nett 69 but she also had her handicap cut by two shots as well. Ginny Mulligan was runner up, losing on a back 6 count but she did lose a shot off her handicap. Well done as well to Sally Longden who shot a nett 72 to win the Ball Comp.
