Rothley Park get title bid back on course

-

ROTHLEY Park got their Everards Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League Premier Division title challenge back on track on Saturday with a five wicket home win over bottom of the table outfit Barkby.

The visitors were put into bat and made 171 all out with Atif Sheikh the pick of Rothley’s bowlers taking 4-19.

In reply, Rothley made a stuttering start with Niall O’Brien caught for a duck off the first ball he faced with fellow opener Atif Sheikh following soon after for just four, leaving Rothley on 7-2.

A further cheap dismissal saw them slip to 23-3 before Donald Butchart (49) and Hamzah Khan (46) took control of the innings and Anish Patel (42 not out) saw Rothley home on 175-5.

There was also a return to form for Barrow Town who secured a 60 run win over Lutterworth.

Barrow batted first and made 236-9, with Ramesh Kara hitting 59 and Sardeep Salgotra scoring 78.

In reply Lutterworth could only score 176-7, Rajneesh Kumar the pick of the Barrow bowling attack taking 4-33.

Sileby kept in touch with the top two after clinching a dramatic two run win over Kegworth Town.

Sileby batted first and made 193-9 with Liam Kinch top scoring with 72. Seth Jackson was the pick of the Kegworth bowlers taking 3-41.

In reply, Kegworth lost opener Brent Williams for just two and then further quick wickets which left them reeling at 31-5.

Albert Grieve led the revival scoring 43 aided by Adam Foster (25), Seth Jackson (35) and Tom Williamson (25) batting at numbers eight, nine and 10, but in the end, the valiant effort of the tailenders was in vain when Williamson was bowled by Jake Gillett with Kegworth two runs short of Sileby’s total at 191 all out.

Elsewhere Loughborough Town suffered a four wicket defeat at the hands of Leicester Ivanhoe and Cropston slipped to a seven wicket home defeat against Langtons.
