PREMIER DIVISION QUORN 2 ROTHWELL CORINTHIANS 2 QUORN entertained Rothwell Corinthians in their first game of the new season back in the United Counties League.

With half a dozen players unavailable for one reason or another, new manager Martin Carruthers gave debuts to no fewer than eight new signings.

With the visitors already having started their League campaign with a 3-0 home victory over Lutterworth Town, this was always going to be a tricky opener.

Rothwell started the stronger with Quorn having to defend but Keeper Adam Binks largely untroubled despite the visitors early pressure.

The home side grew in the game and opened the scorinng with a superb near post header by Rakeem Reid from Joe Brothwell’s corner after nine minutes.

The visitors continued to threaten but an excellent ball over the top saw last year’s leading scorer Stephen Hart chip superbly over the oncoming keeper to put his side 2-0 up, midway through the first half.

Quorn settled and began to exert more pressure on the visitors goal but it went to the break without further goals.

The second half saw Quorn gaining in confidence but the visitors were by no means out of the game. Quorn looked to have quelled the visitor’s attacks and it was looking like they would cruise to a welcome three points but an unfortunate own goal, let Rothwell back in the game.

Hart then finished well, only for the assistant to chalk off the effort for offside, as Quorn continued in the ascendancy but failed to add to their tally, leaving the game in the balance.

With 15 minutes to go, Quorn were dealt another cruel blow, when their attack broke down with a clear foul but the referee ignored Quorn’s appeals and the visitors took advantage with a rapid break down the left before substitute Adefolarin Ademidun levelled the score with a cool finish.

Both sides were guilty of wasting chances to win the game but in the end, neither could break the deadlock and it finished 2-2.

?? ?? Steve Hart scored 51 goals in all competitions for Quorn last season and opened his account for the new campaign with his side’s second goal in a 2-2 draw with Rothwell Corinthians.
