Park run milestone for Caleb -

-

A LOUGHBOROUGH athlete completed his 50th Park Run at the weekend - an impressive milestone for any runner, but even more so when you discover it was a few days before his FIFTH birthday!

Caleb Bishop took part in his first Park Run, at Dishley Park in Loughborough, alongside dad Jon, the day after his fourth birthday and it has since become a regular routine for the family.

Jon said: “He started being involved with Parkrun soon after birth. He handed Jelly Babies and ‘high fives’ to all runners at Raphaels, and Harrow Lodge Parkrun in Romford, before relocating to Loughborough and being a regular favourite with all runners.

“When he reached his 10th milestone exactly 10 weeks after doing his first, the idea of completing 50 within a year started forming. Fortunately the weather through the cold winter months and driving rain didn’t prevent the challenge being realised on Saturday.

“His determination, perseverance, and cheerful attitude has been an inspiration to watch. His PB of 28.45 was set on his 49th Parkrun and shows his improvement continues.

“The marshalls and volunteers at Dishley Parkrun have been the most significant influencers in keeping him motivated. Thank you to all who have cheered him on, encouraged his running, and created a family friendly environment at Dishley.”

On Saturday’s 50th Parkrun Caleb ran with his dad and sister Kezia, along with his Uncle Joel, Uncle Mike, Aunty Rachael, cousins Noah, Joel, and Dan. He was cheered on by his mum, brother Jonah, grandparents, cousin Alisha, and neighbours Eddie and Hugh.

Jon added: “Not only was it a great immediate family affair, but also the huge support from the runners taking part today made it feel like an extended family affair.”

Caleb will celebrate his fifth birthday on Friday (August 23) and is looking forward to wearing his special red t-shirt to mark 50 completed Park Runs in the near future.
