Thringstone music festival is hailed a big success

-

ON A mainly sunny day, Thringstone saw more than 1,200 people go along to support the Thringstone Live Music Festival on August 3 at Charles Booth Centre, Thringstone.

An annual fund raising event put on for the community by staff from the centre aided by an army of dedicated volunteers, the event saw US singers Rich Krueger, Emyna and band, and Oliver Sean come along as part of their UK tour.

The crowds also had the pleasure of seeing youngsters from Storm Academy perform on stage, and the organisers were delighted how well they were received by the audience, as it was the first time singing to large crowds for most of these young people.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “We were very lucky to have wonderful singers from the US join with groups and singers from all over the UK at the festival to entertain the crowds.

“All artistes gave of their time for free and to have the WOA Summer Tour finish at our festival capped off a great day.

“For the first time this year, we took a stance from early on in the organisation, to try to make the festival as green as we could, having recyclable glasses, and severely limiting single use plastics.

“As a result, the amount of rubbish going into landfill was down by two thirds and we would like to thank everybody who came for embracing the idea.

“We would also like to thank all our sponsors for their help, both with monetary sponsorship and raffle donations, and all the volunteers, who not only helped on the day with marshalling, cooking food, serving behind the bars and keeping things running smoothly, but were involved with the planning and organisation.”
