Record breaking results at Charnwood College
YEAR 11 students at Loughborough’s Charnwood College, part of the David Ross Education Trust, are celebrating passing their GCSEs with flying colours after achieving an impressive set of results.
Alastair O’Connor, Principal at Charnwood College said: “I am delighted with the achievements of the students, with a record breaking number of grade 9s across many subjects. We have seen a huge uptake in students wanting to study with us in the Sixth Form and we are looking forward to welcoming many back next week.”
In Biology, Business, and Performing Arts students also did particularly well, with over 80% achieving grade 4 and above.
2018 saw the introduction of the new exams in virtually all GCSE subjects. Under the new grading system, 9 – 1 replaces the old A* - G, with a grade 7 equating to an A and a 4 reading across to a C.
Overall, Charnwood College has seen an improvement on last year’s results, with students’ hard work having paid off with many have secured a place at their preferred sixth form or college. Some students will be going straight into the world of work as part of a traineeship or apprenticeship, with some star performances from a number of students. Minha Chowdhury was one of our top performers and achieved five grades 9, four grades 8 She will be studying Maths, Biology, and Chemistry in the Sixth Form. She commented: “I am so happy with Charnwood College. They gave me every opportunity to achieve these grades.”
Rowena Hackwood, Chief Executive Officer at the David Ross Education Trust said: “We are hugely proud of Charnwood College’s results. Our schools create rich and exciting learning environments that inspire students to become their confident, academic best. We are committed to giving every child a world class education which helps broaden their horizons, and that ambition is clearly become a reality at Charnwood College.”
