Ingles bounce back to beat Barrow in ‘derby’

EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES LEAGUE

INGLES 3 BARROW TOWN 1

IN BLAZING hot conditions Ingles were able to bounce back from a Saturday defeat and beat near neighbours Barrow Town 3-1.

Ingles were able to welcome back Chris Sykes, Ryan Thacker and Korey Craig into the squad after missing Saturday. The game was not only a derby game but also a chance to play against former players, with five players from last year’s Ingles squad in the Barrow squad.

With the temperature hovering around the 30 degree mark it’s testament to both sets of players that the game started at a lively pace with chances being created at both ends.

Barrow started the quicker with both of their wingers causing problems and forcing a few half chances that were just dealt with by the Ingles back four of Sykes, Boulter, M Tuck and Murphy.

It was against the run of play that Ingles took the lead after great work by captain Hammond on the left hand side, his cross found Woolley at the back post who composed himself and fired home after 15 minutes for his fourth goal of the season.

Both sides continued to push forward with Thacker making a couple of saves but Barrow got back into the game after good work down their left found Brandon Hands who slotted the ball under Thacker.

The midfield three of Tuck, Blackshaw and Attwood really started to make their presence known after the goal and Ingles began to take more control of the game, Attwood in particular was very quick in retrieving possession and starting attacks. It wasn’t until the 44th minute that after Attwood released Hammond on the left, Hammonds pass back to Attwood was met with a delightful cross that Fowkes powerfully headed home and left the Barrow centre half with no chance.

After the break and with no let up in the heat after the break it was Ingles who then dominated from the off and really began to control the game. Unfortunately the elusive third goal wasnt coming and the final pass was just missing the target.

Brooks introduced Wilkinson and instantly Wilkinson began to bully the Barrow back line with his power and regularly left them on the floor. He was unlucky not to score straight away as he danced around several players and chipped into the side netting.

He didnt have to wait long for his goal as he struck a free kick that took a big deflection and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 3-1.

This killed the game and the remaining 10 minutes were fairly uneventful as Ingles controlled the game well marshalled by Boulter and Tuck at the back.

A great bounce back victory after Saturday and nice to beat Barrow who did the double over us last season. Credit to both teams for putting on a good game in the heat, especially after both playing on Saturday.

Great to also see a large crowd in attendance as a host of ex Ingles players came and supported the team but also the Sporting Memories charity, the club was donating gate money to.
