‘60 for Sarah’ charity challenge

-

A NEW campaign, ‘60 for Sarah’, has launched a year of challenges and fund-raising in celebration of its namesake – with Eve Myles, star of BBC’s Keeping Faith, sending her good wishes.

Rachael Folds’ wife and partner of more than 19 years lost her life to Motor Neurone Disease in July, five days before she turned 60.

Rachael said: “Sarah worked for 40 years as a nurse, health visitor and eventually clinical team leader for the NHS. She spent her whole life caring for others. So our friend Emily Vaughan suggested we continue Sarah’s legacy and celebrate her birthday by inviting people to set themselves challenges, around the theme of 60, which positively impact others’ lives - by action, donation or both.

“It was wonderful to see Eve Myles kindly posting a video message on our campaign Facebook page. We really appreciate her showing her support for everyone who is boosting awareness and raising funds for charity over the next 12 months.”

Rachael, who is further education computing, games and media production lead at Loughborough College, is thrilled by the response so far: “It’s overwhelming. Sarah would have been so happy.

“We have people donating 60 blankets to the homeless, planting 60 trees and volunteering 60 hours at a drug and alcohol rehab centre. Others are doing a 60km coastal walk or carrying out 60 acts of kindness and we’ll be welcoming as many people along as possible to a 60-minute dog walk on September 15.

“We are hoping people will photograph or video their challenges and share them so, come July 2020, we’ll be able to look back on everything that’s been achieved. The funds will then be added up and donated to charity in Sarah’s name, for her 61st birthday.”

The 60-minute dog walk takes place on Sunday, September 15. Dog owners and non-dog owners alike are welcome to meet at the Cap and Stocking, 20 Borough Street, Kegworth for a 10.30am start.
