TWITTER BOSS’ ACCOUNT HACKED

IF IT can happen to him, it can happen to you. Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey, pictured below, had his official account hacked last week.

The account, @jack, began posting expletive-ridden racist messages for a short time.

It seems someone managed to persuade a call-centre operative at the provider of the number associated with the @jack account to move that number to a different SIM card.

The phone with that SIM card in it was then used to text tweets to the account which appeared online.

Although most people use Twitter via apps or the web page, when Twitter launched, tweets were posted via text (that’s why there’s a character limit to tweets), and it’s still possible to do that if your account has a phone number associated with it.

FIND MY... HANDBAG?

AHEAD of Apple’s autumn iPhone event on Tuesday, September 10, more rumours are beginning to swirl about what might be heading our way.

Aside from new iPhones, a forensic analysis of the next version of the iPhone operating system, iOS 13, has unearthed some details about a change to the Find My iPhone app. A name change, to just Find My, gives us a clue.

While the app can now be used to find more than just your iPhone (you can ping your AirPods if you lose them), the updated app in iOS 13 now includes references to finding other items too.

The conclusion is that Apple is working on creating hardware tags that you can attach to items (such as your bag or wallet, or even your bike), and then track them on your phone via GPS.

The location of tagged items may also be revealed using augmented reality – so you’ll be able to see on your phone screen if you’ve dropped your keys down the back of your sofa. Next week we will have all the details about everything Apple reveals.
