What business is it of yours?
LEICESTERSHIRE and Rutland Family History Society, Loughborough
Group’s autumn programme begins on Tuesday, September 17, with ‘ What Business is it of Yours?!’
In this talk, speaker Sandra Moore takes on the character of Mrs Eliza Billington who lived in the Belgrave area of Leicester from 1848 to 1915. Dressed in costume of the period, ‘Eliza’ tells us about the local people she would have come into contact with each day. They would have seen the coming of the railways, the demise of framework knitting as a cottage industry and large factories opening up giving employment to some but unemployment to many others.
Using examples of people buried in Belgrave Cemetery, ‘Eliza’ will describe some of the businesses in her neighbourhood and the lives of the families who ran them.
Our meetings take place at All Saints Church Hall, Thorpe Acre Road, Loughborough LE11 4NF.
Car parking is conveniently located and there is easy access for wheelchair users. Visitors are welcome to come along to any of our meetings as a taster before joining the group.
Doors are open from 6.45pm and the meeting starts at 7.30pm.
Tea and coffee will be available plus a selection of CDs of births, marriages and deaths listed in the Society’s Journal plus books and maps of local interest for members and guests to browse.
Dates for the next meetings in 2019 will be Tuesday, October 15, The Alexandra Bedspread and its Charnwood connections and on Tuesday, November 19, Jennie Lloyd will talk to us about The Women’s Land Army.
