First meeting of the season
MEMBERS of Sileby Photographic Society met on Monday, September 2, for their first meeting of the new year 2019-20.
The meeting comprised a pre-recorded DVD presentation which had been produced by the Royal Photographic Society, and consisted of the best digital images and prints entered by members of their Nature group in their recent Annual Competition.
Superb digital images and prints, monochrome and colour, were shown which covered many aspects contained within the subject of Nature. Flora, fauna, fungi, insects, birds, moths and butterflies, animals, large and small, and a representative selection of sea creatures were included, and demonstrated near perfection of the photographers’ skills when capturing such images on camera.
Sileby Photographic Society can proudly boast that it has ultra-talented nature photographers within its own membership and, once again, it was well represented in the competition, such is the quality and perfection of their work.
Nigel Atkins, Kevin Blood, Gianpiero Ferrari and Pete Smith ensured that the flag flew high for Sileby, with Gianpiero Ferrari, FRPS, DPAGB, FBPE, AFIAP achieving two highly commended awards and a Selector’s award in the digital image category for his outstanding entries.
Sileby’s representation in the digital prints category was equally impressive with stunning entries once again from Kevin, Gianpiero and Pete Smith. A Selector’s award was once again given to Gianpiero, together with his magnificent representation of ‘Icelandic Poppy’ which was awarded the Bronze medal.
In similar vein, Rushden’s 37th Photographic Exhibition had been recorded on DVD and sections of this were shown during the second half of the evening. Digital prints, featuring landscape, seascape, urban and rural photography, in colour and monochrome, comprised one DVD, with another featuring highly imaginative portraiture. All of these examples showed what can be achieved in today’s world of photography, combining artistry and flair, with outstanding results.
All in all, this had been a superb evening of photography, with some of the best photographers displaying great examples of their work and had provided an excellent start to Sileby’s new programme of events throughout the coming year.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, September 16, when visiting guest photographer, Chris Paul, will present images under the title ‘You Tube’.
Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm and are held at the Sileby Community Centre.
