Roads condition has most complaints
THE STATE of Leicestershire’s roads are the biggest cause of complaints to the council.
That’s according to analysis of data from FixMyStreet, a website that lets residents easily lodge complaints about issues that need attention from their council.
The Echo gathered the past year’s worth of requests from the service to find out which issues generate the most complaints from residents.
Of the 1,450 complaints logged in the past year, more than one in 10 related to the general state of the roads.
Overall Leicestershire councils weren’t particularly responsive, with 73% of complaints still marked as open at the time of writing.
Potholes were the second biggest concern in Leicestershire, attracting 13% of the most recent complaints. The third biggest issue for residents was fly-tipping.
One complaint read: “Do not know where its coming from. Preventing access to the rear of multiple houses on the street.
“Health and safety concern as dangerous, attracting vermin and hazard to residents and children, including the elderly.
“Cannot put bins away into alleyway or gardens due to lack of space for access resulting in fines for us all. NEEDS fixing ASAP!!!”
The fourth most complained about issue was the state of the pavements, the fifth was car parking and the sixth was abandoned vehicles.
There were 70 complaints about abandoned vehicles, 50 about graffiti, and 25 about dog mess over the last year.
