A WOMAN who died after falling from a bridge over the A46 has been named.

The coroner’s office has revealed that Elizabeth Forbes, aged 38, from Loughborough, died after the incident on the Leicester Western Bypass at Wanlip on Thursday, September 26.

Ms Forbes was pronounced dead at the scene after she was struck by a white van seconds after she fell just after 1pm.

He said that a post mortem examination has been carried out at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

An inquest is due to be opened this week.

Leicestershire Police said that the Transit van driver was not injured in the incident which happened on the southbound carriageway of the A46.

Officers said they received two calls simultaneously - one reporting the woman’s fall and the other reporting a collision involving a white Transit van.

The force spokeswoman said: “The incidents were seconds apart.

“The woman fell from the bridge, then after she had fallen, she was struck by the white van.

“The van driver was not injured in the incident. The woman was not struck by any other vehicle.”

Both southbound and northbound carriageways of the A46 between the Anstey/Beaumont Leys turn and the junction of the A6 were closed until 6.30pm.
