MAGAZINE SUCCESS: Widespread local support has resulted in another successful year for The Dialogue, Diseworth’s Village Magazine.

In her annual report, Liz Jarrom, the Chair of the magazine committee, says they would like to thank all Diseworth residents for their ‘fantastic’ support. This year village donations towards the Magazine were £2190.85, compared to £1686.76 in the previous year.

The Committee also thanks all contributors and the individuals and organisations that took advertising space and Diseworth Parish Council for its donation of £500.

The Committee also thanks the magazine delivery team, led by Sue Bird and Linda Gaymer, who organize deliveries and deliver the magazines themselves. They would also like to thank Norma Chapman, Julie and Mike Doyle, Sandie Moores, Gill and Tim Burrage, Nicky and Peter Miller, Pauline Needham, Sue and John Hurley, Jan Frith, Julie Wedd and her mum, and Ron and Kath Taylor who deliver the magazines during the year.

WIDE CHOICE: Wideranging topics have been selected for the autumn meetings of Diseworth Women’s Afternoon Discussion Group.

At the October meeting at 12 Lady Gate in the village the topic for discussion was ‘Do Dreams have Meaning’.

On Monday, November 4 at 7a Lady Gate the discussion will centre around the topic –‘Does the Royal Family have value in the modern age?’

In the last meeting of the year on Monday December 2 the group will discuss ‘Fantasy Guests for Christmas dinner’ at 31 Hall Gate in the village. All the meetings start at 2pm and a cordial invitation to attend has ben issued to all local women.

FOOD BANK; Parishioners at Diseworth Parish Church and other villagers are supporting a food bank operating in Shepshed.

A big thank-you has been issued to all local people for their ‘continued generosity’ in supporting the food back, where food is donated to people who cannot afford to feed their families adequately.

In the current issue of Diseworth Village Magazine an appeal has gone out for continued support from local people for the project. Tins of meat, fish and puddings are particularly welcome. And all donations will be sent to the Shepshed food bank.

The box for the foodbank is situated on the floor at the back of the Parish Church next to the table.

CHURCH. Harvest at St. Michael’s and All Angels Church at Diseworth featured thanksgiving for crops from farms, gardens, allotments and the hedgerows. The well attended service was a united celebration of Harvest.

KARATE. Success follows success for Long Whatton Shotokan Karate Club as membership continue to grow and beginners to the sport prepare for their first gradings at the end of the month.

The September assessments were particularly special for club members who only started to learn karate when the club opened for training in April this year as they will take their first gradings.

The gradings were conducted by former World Champion Sensei (teacher) Frank Brennan (8th Dan Black Belt). The grading required candidates to demonstrate their technical skill and attitude across three primary areas of karate – Kihon (basic moves), Kumite (sparring) and Kata (set sequence of moves executed in a specific order)

Other recent successes have included Sensei Chris gaining his full Karate Union of Great Britain instructor’s qualification. He also attended a summer course in Lancaster and trained with some of the top instructors in the whole of the country and several world champions.

Adults, young people and children who would like to give karate a try may find out more on the club’s Facebook page @longwhattonkarate, email the club at longwhattonkarate@gmail.com or contract the club secretary on 07714335598.
