Quorn recover from setback to net Vase win

-

BUILDBASE FA VASE 1ST ROUND QUORN 5 ROCESTER 3 FA VASE football once again rolled into Quorn as they welcomed Rocester of The Midland Football League to Farley Way Stadium.

Te game started with a great tempo with it clear the opposition were up for the challenge and it didn’t take long for them to get themselves in the lead. In the fifth minute a missed header from centre back Deon Meikle allowed Rocester striker Jordan Dodd to judge the bounce of the ball right, pounce on it and put himself one and one with Adam Binks in the Quorn goal and stroke it into the net.

The game was an even affair with chances for both sides but on 30 minutes the visitors doubled their advantage against the run of play.

Jordan Dodd had the ball on the right wing, lofted the ball into the Quorn box and somehow it found its way into the net to make it 2-0.

The setback seemed to spark a reaction from Quorn who seemed sharper and put more strength into their tackles and in first half stoppage time, they reduced the arrears with a goal from Rackeem Reid.

A stern half time talk from Quorn boss Martin Carruthers produced an immediate reaction as Rackeem Reid grabbed his second goal of the game to level the scores but Rocester regained the lead with a goal from Francisco in the 50th minute.

Stephen Hart levelled the scores at 3-3 in the 65th minute and took the lead for the first time three minutes later through Jack Duffy before Deon Meikle made it 5-3 on 86 minutes.

It means Quorn are unbeaten over 90 minutes in 14 games and now face an away trip to Sporting Khalsa in round two of the FA Vase. Quorn return to league action on Saturday for a clash against Holbeach United.
