MEN’S 1ST XI 4 STOURPORT MEN’S 1ST XI 2

LOUGHBOROUGH Town’s 1st welcomed visiting Stourport 1st XI who came into the match with two wins from two games, so they knew this was going to be a challenging game.

The game started with an early error by Patel resulting in a Stourport short corner. A drag flick from visiting side’s forward was slotted past Jackson which gave Stourport an early lead.

It wasn’t long after that Stourport got a second with a ball fired from outside the D from the left all the way across to a free man at the back right post for an easy tap in.

Town down 2-0 within the first five minutes of the game.

Town settled down and then started to play well and continuously pressured the Stourport defence. It wasn’t long before Town scored their first goal where the ball was played into Hoddle on the penalty spot who clinically finished into the top corner.

A few minutes later, Patel hit the ball into the area to Ethan who mistrapped it though it fell straight to Capel at the penalty spot who pushed it past the keeper. Town now back in the game at 2-2 and now looking the better side.

With Town continuing to play good hockey it wasn’t long before White played a sharp pass into Capel who deflected into Curd. Curd with a huge wind up smashed it into the back of the net to give Town the lead.

Town then scored the 4th goal and final goal of the game when Morris found Capel at the front post who deflected it in for his second.

Both teams attacked and had opportunities towards the end, but it ended 4-2 to Town which took them 3rd in the table. Sam France had a great game, though Man of the match went to Charlie Dowse who battled hard throughout the entire game with a strong performance both in attack and defence.

Town have a difficult game away at Birmingham University next week who are currently top of the table.
