DIVISION SHEPSHED DYNAMO 3

OADBY TOWN 1

SHEPSHED Dynamo extended their lead at the top of the Uhlsport United Counties Premier Division to 10 points with their 11th straight victory.

Their 100 per centrecord was kept intact with a 3-1 home win against Oadby Town at The Dovecote Stadium on Saturday in front of 222, but Matty White’s net was breached for the first time in league action after 948 minutes without conceding a goal.

Shepshed named an unchanged side from their hard fought victory at Deepng Rangers the week before. The usual pattern occurred Reece Morris giving them a solitary goal lead at half time. Oadby equalised early in the second half and for a time looked like being the first team to go in front of Dynamo in the league. But goals in the last 10 minutes from Matt Melbourne and Harry Wakefield sealed the points for Shepshed.

Shepshed started strongly and controlled the early pattern of play Wakefield having his header saved by Brandon Pickard and cleared by Josh Virdee from the returning ball Pickard saved Karl Whymark’s header both on two minutes.

Oadby’s first chance of the game fell to Adam Zhia but his header went over White’s crossbar on 14 minutes and a minute later Shepshed took the lead for the first time. Betts breaking down the visitors play in his own half found Wakefield and he swept the ball wide left to Morris who cut inside Virdee and his curling left to right effort went straight through Pickard into the right hand corner.

Dynamo controlled the majority of the rest of the half and went into the break a solitary goal to the good.

Oadby caught Shepshed cold early in the second half and with White yet to pick the ball out the back of the net he was beaten for the first time in 948 minutes of league football by a snapshot on the edge of the box by Olaniji Ayoola.

Shepshed looked shell shocked and Oadby pressed to be the first team to lead against Shepshed in the United Counties League with four good chances in the space of 12 minutes before Shepshed began to settle down and impose themselves on the visitors.

Shepshed restored their lead on 80 minutes, through Melbourne and then put the result beyond doubt three minutes later, Wakefield latching onto the ball down the left

hand side before he steadied himself and hit a fierce shot which went straight through Pickard into the Town goal.

This was a well earned three points for Shepshed who are now ten points clear of the nearest rivals Loughborough Uni FC who have a game in hand.

Dynamo now face chasing Holbeach United away on Saturday.
