Popular community hub celebrates 10th birthday

A LOCAL community hub in Loughborough has celebrated its tenth anniversary.

The Marios Tinenti Centre in Russell Street opened in 2009 after the residents decided to stand up to the increase in antisocial behaviour including drug dealing and a fear of crime on the Bell Foundry estate.

The centre was the brainchild of Marios and Cherie Tinenti. When Marios sadly died before it was opened, Cherie continued in his name, and a decade later, the centre has become a valuable community hub, helping and supporting residents with a variety of issues and providing opportunities for people to become more active in the community.

Coun Deborah Taylor, lead member for communities, said: “What a decade it has been for the Tinenti family and everybody who has worked at the centre since 2009.

“The communities and partnerships team at the council and the fantastic volunteers at the centre have worked tirelessly for the countless people from the area who have used the facilities and help on offer.

“I’m sure Marios would have been incredibly proud to see how far the centre has come, and how important it continues to be in people’s lives. Here’s to the next ten years.”
