Entertaining twist to a classic festive tale

-

JUST when you thought Christmas couldn’t get any gloomier…. here comes Scrooge! Yet there is guaranteed light at the end of the tunnel when the Quorn Phoenix Entertainers bring the biggest critic of Christmas back to life at the Village Hall on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23.

Humbug is a modern adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Murray Holt gives the classic story a suitably humorous and entertaining twist with Director Marlene Frisby pulling it all together.

Those who have seen their previous shows should know what to expect from the Entertainers and no one will be disappointed on this occasion.

Not everything will be completely ‘alright on the Night’ as a cast of all ages and stage experience open on the Friday night, but a few forgotten lines and ad libs always adds to the humour. Traditionally Fridays attracts the most raucous audience aided and abetted by their own forms of Christmas spirits!

Despite the worst efforts of an ultramiserable Ebenezer Scrooge, played by one of the group’s mainstays John Spencer, there is good natured fun and laughter aplenty – most of it intended!

But even he is unable to resist the charm and wisdom of ghosts including Steve Winning, the real deal as Jacob Rees Marley, newcomer Liberty Forrest, a lively and chilling Ghost of Christmas Past and John Brindley as hopefully, you’ve never seen him before, as the Ghost of Christmas Present. Ease the seasonal blues with light-hearted mayhem – and there’s a guarantee of a happy ending, unlike the General Election.

Shows start at 7.30pm each evening with a 2pm matinee on the Saturday.

Tickets are available from Jenny on 01509 621304 and are £7 for adults and £3 for children.
