Award finalists revealed

THE finalists for this year’s Charnwood Sports Awards have been announced.

The awards ceremony, organised by Charnwood Borough Council, received 76 individual nomination­s and judges have now selected finalists in all 10 categories.

The finalists are: Junior Sportspers­on of the Year: Sophie Watson, Thomas Giles, Will Bell; Junior Team of the Year: Barrow Town Eagles U9 Football Team, Charnwood College Riders, Loughborou­gh Foxes U12 Football Team; Outstandin­g Contributi­on to Sport & Physical Activity & School Sport: Aimee Merison, Dishley Park Run, Gorse Covert Health Walk;

Senior Sportspers­on of the Year: Joe Heyes, Karim Chan, Katie Boulter;

Senior Team of the Year: Charnwood Tennis Women’s 1st Team, Poplar Football Club, Loughborou­gh Lawn Tennis Club Ladies 1st team; Volunteer of the Year: Ann Bullock, Dan Turner, Holly Shepherd, Sam James; Club of the Year: Loughborou­gh Badminton Club, Rothley Park Cricket Club, Shepshed Running Club; Coach of the Year: Krumesh Patel, Laura Buddle, Paul Nicholls; Best Community Sport and Physical Activity Project 2019: MJFC Ladies- Gemma Jones, LEAP & LEAP Maintainer­s, Pauline McCoy; Joe Humphries Special Recognitio­n Award 2019: Jesse Dufton, Joe Ballantyne, Sue Reynolds.

Coun Deborah Taylor, lead member for communitie­s said: “It was tough trying to narrow down this year’s finalists as we have so many talented and dedicated individual­s, coaches, clubs and volunteers in Charnwood.”

This year’s awards ceremony will take place on Monday, December 2 at Burleigh Court, Loughborou­gh.
